Dental Implant Restoration - What Are My Options?

We believe in empowering our patients with information. This way, you can choose the treatment option that you feel is best aligned with your individual needs and goals. When it comes to dental implant restoration, it may be helpful to know that there are different options.

Dental implants are made of three different components - an implant post, an abutment that is attached to the post, and a restoration. The restoration can be either a single crown, dental bridge, or implant-supported dentures. Which option is best for you all depends on your individual situation and level of health.

Single Implant Restoration

With a single implant restoration, treatment focuses on one particular tooth. Typically, with this approach, an implant-supported crown is used to replace the damaged or missing tooth. The implant is surgically inserted into the jaw, then an abutment piece and crown are attached. The crown looks and functions just like a real tooth.

Implant-Supported Dental Bridge

If you’re having problems with two or more teeth and the teeth are adjacent to one another, then your best option may be an implant-supported dental bridge. This option can be used to close a gap in your smile where teeth are missing. With this approach, two or more implants are inserted into the jaw, then allowed to heal. The patient returns at a later date and a bridge is attached to the implants. The bridge is made of two dental crowns and a pontic (prosthetic tooth).

Implant Supported Dentures

If you have several teeth that are severely damaged or missing, you may be a good candidate for implant-supported dentures. Depending on your situation, our dentists may recommend either full or partial dentures. Generally, with this approach, somewhere between four to eight implants are placed in the mouth. The implants work to support your dentures and keep them from moving out of place. Implant-supported dentures are longer-lasting than traditional dentures, though they are more expensive. Many patients also find themselves to be more comfortable and feel more confident eating, talking, and smiling.

Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a life-like restoration that fits securely onto your implant. A dental crown will look and function like a natural tooth. The crown will match the size, shape, and color of your other existing teeth to ensure the best look, function, and feel possible.
