National Dental Hygiene Month

Dental hygiene is critical for preventing oral disease and keeping your teeth, gums, and mouth healthy. National Dental Hygiene Month is the perfect opportunity to engage in conversations about oral health with your dentist, children, and loved ones. It’s a gentle reminder of the importance of dental hygiene and how good habits can help us continually enjoy clean teeth, healthy gums, and fresh breath over the course of our lives.

Dental Hygiene Month: A Reason to Smile Brighter!

National Dental Hygiene Month is an awareness spearheaded by the American Dental Hygienists’ Association during the month of October. It emphasizes the crucial role that dental hygienists play in promoting dental wellness as well as the daily habits that can preserve the health and beauty of our smile.

Essential Oral Hygiene Habits

Practicing good oral hygiene habits keeps our teeth and gums healthy, which in turn gives us better confidence, comfort, and an improved quality of life. The three most important habits are:

Brushing Your Teeth

Brushing is essential for removing food and plaque from your teeth, preventing cavities, and keeping your gums healthy. You should brush your teeth twice daily for at least two minutes using a soft toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste.

Flossing Your Teeth

Some areas of your mouth can’t be cleaned with a toothbrush, so it’s important to floss your teeth as well. Make it a habit to floss your teeth at least once each day, ideally at night after your last meal.

Rinsing with Mouthwash

Consider using mouthwash as part of your oral hygiene routine. Mouthwash isn’t a substitute for brushing, but it can be used as an additional precaution for eliminating harmful bacteria.
